Photonics Package Specialization package
Photonics is, and has always been, part of the field of electrical engineering. Optical fibers and photonic integrated circuits enable our telecom networks, datacenters and supercomputers, and will in the near future be an integral part of any high-capacity electronic system. Based on these mature technologies, applications like structural and chemical sensing, light based metrology, such as Lidar, and biomedical applications are now a daily reality too.
The package addresses the core technologies laser diodes, optical fibers, and photonic integrated circuits in the three courses, respectively, as well as the abovementioned applications. The package is of interest to engineers who want to become active in the field of photonics, as well as to electrical engineers who want broaden their scope and anticipate on the exponentially increasing convergence of electronics and photonics.

Fall, Q1 + Q2
Students enrolled in the Electrical Engineering Program or students enrolled in the Computer Engineering program can enroll in the Photonics package. You must have qualifications conforming to a bachelor ECE-program or equivalent, such as Physics or Chemistry. It is advantageous to have completed a bachelor course in the field of photonics, semiconductor physics, semiconductor components, and/or electromagnetism.
