Engineering Research and Development Projects

Aims

The purpose of Engineering Research and Development Projects is to give master students an opportunity to work together with the scientific staff at the department (PhD students and their advisors) in connection to ongoing research and development projects. This will give the students an introduction to the research and development work environment and strengthen the connection between the R&D activities and teaching activities. Students will gain insight into the work in a research and development group. The working method of the course will train the participants to independently seek information, to plan and complete projects, to communicate professional issues, to read and understand research and technical papers and to solve a particular research and development task.

Staff

The daily contact will typically be taken care of by R&D staff rooting the project, as is formally responsible for the activities. 

Assessment

Assessment can be either of the following 2 options:

Option 1

1.a) Written report that documents the project work. The report must use the ASE template for Technical Reports. Guidelines and template can be found here.

1.b) Conference paper. The conference paper must use the ASE template for Conference Papers. Guidelines and template can be found here.

1.c) Oral presentation of the conference paper.

You must hand in 2 hard copies of the technical report and 2 hard copy of the conference paper to your supervisor (1 copy for the supervisor, 1 for the internal examiner). Hand in 1 soft copy of the technical report and 1 soft copy of conference paper to the archive (may be published on the web). Please forward soft copies to hka@iha.dk, together with link to the project description. If the project may not be published, please report this in the mail.

Option 2

1.b) Poster. The poster must use the ASE template for posters. Guidelines and template can be found here.

1.c) Oral presentation of the poster.

You must hand in 2 hard copies of the technical report (1 copy for the supervisor, 1 for the internal examiner) and 1 hard copy of the poster to your supervisor. Hand in 1 soft copy of the technical report and 1 soft copy of the poster to the archive (may be published on the web). Please forward soft copies to hka@iha.dk, together with link to the project description. If the project may not be published, please report this in the mail.

Grade is based on the written report and the oral presentation of the conference paper/poster. Grade is pass/not pass. Internal examiner.

Regulations

It is not possible attend the Engineering and Research Project course and do thesis work simultaneously.

TechnicalIT students are allowed max. 10 ECTS (2 courses) in Engineering and Research Project, as part of their master program.

Engineering and Research Project course may be placed between quarters.
